England Rugby and Altice/SFR sign an exclusive broadcast agreement

The Rugby Football Union, the national governing body for grassroots and elite rugby in England, signed with Altice an agreement for the exclusive distribution of four to five England home matches in each season up to 2020, on all Altice Group media in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Already the sole distributor of the Aviva Premiership, England’s top rugby club competition, Altice is strengthening its long-term commitment to rugby and extending its offering of premium rugby content.

In France, the SFR SPORT 2 channel will broadcast every Saturday, from November 12 to December 3, the autumn internationals between England and the national teams of South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and – lastly – Australia.

Altice’s acquisitions of various premium sports rights including football, basketball, tennis, ski and rugby, as well as the expertise of the company’s journalists and consultants, enable SFR to offer its customers a unique experience of major sports competitions.

Michel Combes, CEO of the Altice group and President-CEO of SFR Group commented: “The agreement with England Rugby is another example of the telecom-media convergence that is central to the business strategy of Altice and its French subsidiary SFR. It steps up our long-standing commitment to rugby, a sport with which we share the values of commitment and performance. Thanks to our superfast broadband networks, our five sports channels, our growing portfolio of premium rights and the expertise of the SFR Sport team, we currently deliver to our customers the best multiscreen sports experience.”

SFR SPORT 2 is available to SFR subscribers in France on channel 29 or channels 17 and 151, depending on the network.
